How to remove your fear of failure at work?
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
What is failure? Failure can be defined as the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective and may be viewed as the opposite of success. Whereas failure seems to be like a negative term, it brings out several positive impacts on an individual. Every person and organization who is successful today, has seen failure at some point of time in the past.
Failure shouldn’t be seen as an end to your efforts but an area you need to focus and work on.
Failure teaches us about the do’s and don’ts. Failure is just a steppingstone towards success. In fact, failure can be the best teacher one can ask for. So all we need is to stop failure from stopping us to pursue our goals but instead learn from their failures, turn it to our advantage and constantly keep trying no matter how many times we fail just like the famous saying by Richard Branson – Head and Founder of Virgin Group.
“Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.”

Well-being at Work is way more than just managing stress
Thursday Apr 07, 2022
Thursday Apr 07, 2022
What is well-being? There are various criteria of wellbeing: mental, physical, emotional, career, social .etc. all of which are necessary for the fulfillment of needs of employees.
Organizational Wellbeing is driven by acting on our human needs (Maslow):
☑️ Self-actualization –realization of a person’s potential
☑️ Esteem –approval, respect, and recognition
☑️ Belonging –acceptance, affiliation, and affection
☑️ Safety –security, stability, and freedom from fear
☑️ Physiological needs –food, shelter, and water.
These needs go well beyond the association of wellbeing with stress and burnout - that are the natural consequences or symptoms of inefficient support of these individual needs.
More importantly, employees need to feel happy and satisfied with their jobs if they want to make their mental health a priority because both are indirectly linked to each other.

Legends and Truths - The Science behind Happiness with Dr. Louise Lambert
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Everyone wants to be happy but most of us cannot answer to the simple question, why are we unhappy? Many people try doing things differently or believe certain things like landing a better, high paid job will make us happy, but it still does not. In this episode of Learn with Bessern, we will be talking about how happiness is affected through our perceptions, our behavior and our brain.
Our guest speaker Dr. Louise Lambert will help us uncover the truth from a scientific perspective on happiness and demystify common beliefs about what it is and what it is not. In general, happiness is understood as the positive emotions we have in regards to the pleasurable activities we take part in through our daily lives. Pleasure, comfort, gratitude, hope, and inspiration are examples of positive emotions that increase our happiness and move us to flourish.
About Dr. Louise Lambert: Based in Dubai, She is a Canadian registered psychologist who develops, delivers, and evaluates positive psychology & positive education intervention programs for organizations and schools across the GCC region. She has several peer-reviewed publications, some of which have been featured in recent RAND Corporation and World Happiness Reports (2019). Her research areas include culture and happiness, the development of character strengths for greater PISA scores and employment outcomes for youth, as well as the use of positive psychology for greater subjective wellbeing in the workplace. Since 2015, Dr. Louise has been the Editor of the Middle East Journal of Positive Psychology. She is also the author of the first regional textbook in positive psychology (Springer, 2019), and general psychology (Cambridge, 2018).

How has 'coming back to the office' affected people after having worked from home for months? 🙋🏻 The varied preferences of people regarding working from home, at office, juggling between the two should be considered to ensure better work environments. The opportunity cost of not paying office rent and travel cost has put the efficiency of the workforce at stake by exhausting them through long hours on zoom. The risk of a new wave of anxiety and burnout in the workforce is high... and organization will have to develop flexible and creative processes for the new way of working.
Employers have to take into consideration the benefit of flexible working conditions and employees mental health and well-being.

Becoming better Leaders: being trusted is better than just being liked
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
In this episode of Learn with Bessern - we discuss on the value of creating trust and go beyond sympathy and assertiveness.
It is nice to be liked. It is our human nature to want to belong and be accepted. It would be awesome to be liked and respected as a leader, but more often than not this is not the case.
We hear this saying a lot - don’t be liked, be respected – but it has different meanings depending on the context. There are leaders who use it as an excuse to be just awful and rude. That is not the aim here. From our side, what it means is that sometimes you will have to do things that people might not like, but if you truly believe it is the best course of action then you cannot worry about being disliked as a result of the decision.
Being respected when you grow too fast can be challenging because your once colleagues are now reporting to you – that alone can cause friction and interpersonal conflicts. On top of that, if you are the type of leader who is looking to create change in an organization, you are going to make many people uncomfortable and surely you will not always be liked.
